A police officer was fatally shot on Thursday during a robbery at a petrol station in western Germany, near the French border.
The incident occurred in the town of Völklingen when two officers arrived at the scene of the robbery, according to a police spokesperson in nearby Saarbrücken.
One of the suspects attempted to flee, prompting a confrontation with the police.
During the scuffle, the suspect managed to seize one of the officers’ firearms and fired multiple shots, fatally wounding one officer.
The suspect was also injured in the exchange of gunfire and was subsequently arrested.
