A 56-year-old man has died following a fight with men in Zeebrugge, West Flanders, on Friday evening.
Two men allegedly attacked the victim after an argument in a night shop.
He was punched several times. A witness attempted to resuscitate the man and the emergency services arrived quickly, but the victim died at the scene from his injuries.
The suspects had fled the scene and an investigation has been launched, the West Flanders public prosecutor's office confirmed on Saturday.
At around 22:00, the Bruges police received a report of an incident in Mercatorstraat in Zeebrugge. A man had been attacked by two other men.
According to witnesses, there had been a discussion between the parties involved in a night shop beforehand. Shortly afterwards, the situation escalated into an attack on the victim.
The forensic doctor and the laboratory arrived at the scene for further investigation and an autopsy will also be performed on the victim's body.
The investigation is in full swing and is being continued by the West Flanders federal judicial police, under the direction of the investigating judge in Bruges.
