Aldi has announced it will transition from paper price tags to digital price labels in its Belgian stores, becoming the last major retailer in the country to adopt this technology.

By using digital price displays, supermarkets can save on paper costs while improving efficiency. “With just one click, we can instantly adjust prices across all our stores,” explained Céline Rotthier, Sales Manager at Aldi Belgium. “This allows us to respond even more quickly to price drops or promotions.”

The supermarket chain emphasised that Belgian customers value the readability of price tags. To maintain clarity, the dimensions of the labels will remain unchanged.

Aldi’s digital screens will use four colours: red for promotions, white for regular prices of standard products, black for newly introduced items, and yellow for products that offer customers bonus points via their digital loyalty card.

The transition to digital tags will be rolled out in phases, starting with stores in East and West Flanders. Aldi aims to equip all 445 of its Belgian stores with electronic price labels by the end of the year.
