Over 250 media outlets from more than 70 countries, including Le Soir and La Libre Belgique, went black on their front pages or disrupted their programming on Monday.
It marks an unprecedented protest coordinated by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and global civic movement Avaaz.
This collective action comes in response to the killing of 220 journalists in Gaza by the Israeli army over nearly two years, according to RSF.
"At the current rate of journalists being killed in Gaza, soon no one will be left to inform the world. This is not just a war on Gaza, but a war on journalism itself," stated RSF Secretary-General Christophe Deloire in a press release.

Participating media outlets are not only condemning these killings but also demanding urgent measures to ensure the safe evacuation of Palestinian journalists wishing to leave Gaza.
They are further calling on Israeli authorities to grant international media unhindered access to Gaza to provide independent reporting on the dire situation.
