Wouter Vandenhaute has offered to step down as chairman of RSC Anderlecht, notifying the club’s Board of Directors of his decision in an email on Monday morning, according to several Belgian media outlets.

The board is expected to discuss his position this Friday.

This decision follows a difficult week for the club, beginning with their elimination from the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers and culminating in Sunday’s derby defeat to defending champions Union Saint-Gilloise (2-0).

Tensions around Anderlecht’s Astrid Park have since continued to intensify. On Sunday, club owner Marc Coucke announced that additional clarification regarding his involvement with Anderlecht would be provided on Monday.

Meanwhile, frustrations among fans were evident during the derby at Union’s Duden Park, where banners in the Anderlecht section read "Wouter out" and criticised the board’s management.

Messages called on the leadership to “question themselves and take responsibility,” citing “poor management, bad coaching choices, and a lack of grit.”

Co-owner Geert Duyck was also targeted, with critical remarks like “You’re not blameless either.”

Adding to the growing dissent, the Anderlecht Fan Council had renewed its calls for Vandenhaute’s resignation.

RSC Anderlecht suffered a 2-0 defeat in Sunday’s Brussels derby against reigning champions Union on the sixth matchday of the Jupiler Pro League, compounding the club’s recent struggles after their European exit earlier this week.

The result leaves Union joint-top of the standings with 14 points, alongside STVV, while Anderlecht sits in fifth with nine points. The crisis at the Belgian record champions is deepening.

Anderlecht’s poor start to matches this season continued as they fell behind after just four minutes.
