A 57-year-old resident of Kerkstraat in Zichen, near Riemst, Limburg Province,was discovered dead under a car on which he had been working on Tuesday afternoon.
Local police in the Bilzen-Hoeselt-Riemst zone were alerted earlier Tuesday after the man failed to show up for work.
Officers went to his home on Visésteenweg and found the door unlocked. The man was not inside the house.
Police subsequently found him trapped beneath a passenger car in a gated area close to his residence. Investigators believe he had been working on the vehicle when the jack failed, causing the car to crush him.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to free the man, but a responding emergency doctor could only confirm his death.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the tragic incident.
