Customs officials at the Port of Antwerp intercepted a large shipment of cocaine on Tuesday, totalling 606 kilograms.

The discovery was made at quay 1742 in the Waaslandhaven area, in the Port of Antwerp. The drugs were hidden among a cover load of canned fish in a container.

The container had arrived from Ecuador in South America.

Authorities have confirmed the cocaine will be destroyed.

An investigation is now underway to identify those behind the smuggling attempt.
