Belgium is not the Serengeti, nor the Amazon rainforest, and yet few countries of its size can boast such a deep and curious relationship with birds. From the trilling canaries bred to sing like virtuoso musicians, to the exorbitant pigeons, to the green squadrons of parakeets that now streak across Brussels skies, it has long been in thrall to feathered companions both wild and domesticated.
