A 52-year-old man died in an explosion involving a construction vehicle on Thursday morning in Broechem, a district of Ranst in Antwerp.

According to the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was operating a bulldozer-like vehicle when the accident occurred in the northern part of the area.

For reasons that remain unclear, the fuel tank of the vehicle reportedly exploded.

The fire spread to a nearby warehouse, though the damage there was contained.
