Two women have been sentenced by the Antwerp correctional court to probationary prison terms for an attack involving heavy fireworks in Deurne, Antwerp Province.

The incident took place in the early hours of 14 March 2025, when an explosive was detonated outside a house on Arendshoflaan at about 1:40 a.m., shattering a window. Investigators believe the device was likely heavy Cobra fireworks.

There was no immediate link to drug-related activities.

The resident of the house suggested a connection to one of the accused, who had previously been implicated in another case in which the resident had provided testimony to the police.

ANPR camera footage showed the two women near the house both before and after the explosion. They were seen in a car together with a third, unidentified person.

The women were also charged with harassment since, in the days following the attack, the victim reportedly received several anonymous calls and threatening messages.

One of the defendants was sentenced to four years in prison and the other to three years, but both sentences were suspended with probationary conditions.
