A major water leak in a distribution pipe on Rue Ropsy Chaudron in Anderlecht, near the abattoirs, disrupted water pressure across parts of western Brussels overnight, network operator Vivaqua confirmed on Friday.
The incident, detected between Thursday and Friday night, did not result in any supply cuts to nearby households. However, residents in Anderlecht, Molenbeek, Ganshoren and Koekelberg experienced reduced water pressure.
The leak affects a major distribution pipe, described by Vivaqua as a "water motorway", which channels water into smaller pipes supplying individual streets across the capital.
"Operations are underway to restore pressure in homes," spokesperson Saar Vanderplaetsen said. "Pressure may not be immediately optimal due to peak morning consumption, but it should be fully restored later this morning."
Before repair works can begin, crews will first need to clean the affected roadway, where large amounts of water and mud have spilt onto the street. Once cleared, teams will assess the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.
