The Namur in May Festival, scheduled for 26-28 May, can now be held fully and free of restrictions following Friday’s decisions by the Consultative Committee, much to the delight of its organisers, Belga News Agency reports.
The fairground-arts festival was cancelled in 2020 due to the novel Coronavirus. It was held in 2021, but in reduced format, with 80 representations, each accessible to no more than 50 persons.
This year, with the Corona barometer down to yellow, the event can again include travelling entertainment and aim for the type of crowd it had in 2019, when no fewer than 240,000 persons attended.

“These relaxations are evidently much hoped-for measures for the festival, which stands for access to culture for all,” the organization stressed. “It’s a real sign of hope for everyone yearning for culture. Namur in May is happy to see, on the horizon, a festival that is once again unifying, magical and atypical … as it has always been for over 25 years.”
“Evidently, we remain careful,” the organisers added. “The event will be subject to the evolution of the measures taken by the Government, and we encourage the most vulnerable persons to wear FFP2 facemasks.”
The festival’s complete programme, and innovations for the 2022 edition, will be announced on 24 March.
