Train services between Schellebelle and Aalst, in East Flanders, were suspended from 16:40 on Thursday after a person was struck by a train in Hofstade, according to rail network operator Infrabel.
Traffic has been disrupted in both directions.
Replacement buses are being provided, while some trains are being rerouted locally.
It was not immediately clear how long the disruption would last.
