Flemish escort and TikTok user ‘Meliciousss’, better known as Mel, has gone viral for her honest, educational and non-judgemental videos about that in which she is an expert: sex. But she has been banned from the platform after her account was reported, meaning she will be shifting her activity to other social media platforms.

Video and social media platform TikTok has gained tremendous popularity in recent years, especially among adolescents. Online, they encounter the things that are not spoken about at school and at home.

Sensitive topics – from how best to please your partner to sneaky tricks that will turn anyone on – are openly discussed on the platform. But not every source is useful or trustworthy and disinformation abounds, especially surrounding a topic that is often still considered taboo.

Real sex talk

That is where Flemish escort Mel comes in, answering teenagers’ sex questions without beating around the bush. Teens can find her on the platform and ask whatever they have on their minds. “I do everything I can to ensure that this remains a respectful environment where young people feel safe,” Mel told De Morgen.

With her online audience of over 50,000 followers, she discusses everything from queefing to pulling out as well as tough topics such as insecurity and body image issues.

Learning from a "sexpert" what they do not teach in schools has been useful for many teenagers. “They clearly need a place where they can ask that question and get an answer from someone who talks to them about sex in a normal way,” she said.

Much needed information

In a country where the anatomy of genital organs will only be included in official Belgian textbooks from the next school year, there is a clear need for accessible and credible information.

“I also used to find sex education at school an embarrassing event where people dance around the hot mess and mainly warn you about the dangers of sex; I certainly understand that young people have to go elsewhere,” Mel said.

“I suppose they have the idea that I 'know a lot about sex' and don’t feel judged by the way I answer. I do everything I can to ensure that this remains a respectful environment where young people feel safe to ask their questions. Because if I have to be honest: I don’t think they are well-informed.”

Queefs and cocks

Mel explains, for example, that queefing is completely normal and the difference between pleasuring a circumcised or uncircumcised penis.

She also deals with sexual positions. On the cowgirl, for instance: “Honey, that boy is just going to be excited to see everything going up and down. Don’t worry about whether it looks good, make sure it feels good! There’s nothing more attractive than watching your partner enjoy it.”

Other tips are vital to maintain sexual health. In a private message, one follower asked about pulling out before ejaculation. “I then made a video about how pre-cum can also contain sperm and that pulling is certainly not a safe method.”

Mel had expected that this would be common knowledge and taught in school. Yet the wave of astonished reactions to the video highlighted the desperate need for more information.

In certain cases, Mel recommends that followers seek professional medical advice: “Most young people know that they should go to a doctor with certain problems, but I try to reassure them, as a kind of intermediary.”

She explains that sexual health practitioners often see similar complaints and are not judgemental. “For example, there was a boy who couldn’t pull back his foreskin. When I explained in a video response that he could get infections from it and it was best to go to the doctor, I got relieved messages from other guys who also went to the doctor after that."

Banned from TikTok

The key to Mel’s success is the mutual respect that she fosters, both in the way she interacts with teenagers and in the way they talk to her. The responses speak volumes, as many adolescents express their gratitude at having found her account.

But does she not get criticised for speaking so openly about something that some still consider taboo? “Naturally, a small number of people think that what I do is not acceptable. But that does not outweigh the almost fifty thousand followers who are very respectful and grateful.”

Yet despite there being no rule against providing sexual information for educational purposes on TikTok, Mel's account was reported. “I really want to remain available for questions, because I notice that there is a need for it,” she said, so she referred followers to her Instagram.

For now, Mel’s TikTok account remains closed, preventing her from posting videos or commenting on her backup account until at least next Thursday.
