The Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (VLAIO) recovered over €6 million euros in strategic transformation subsidies from German car manufacturer Audi after the closure of its factory in Forest.

The subsidies were reimbursed in 2025 by Audi, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

Audi’s factory in Forest, which employed around 3,000 workers, permanently ceased operations in February 2025.
