A 51-year-old man was killed on Saturday afternoon after a mobile home exploded in Leefdaal, in the municipality of Bertem, following a fire that prosecutors say was accidental.
Emergency services were called to a fire in a mobile home next to the victim’s house on Korbeekstraat in Leefdaal.
The man is believed to have noticed the fire himself and tried to put it out before the explosion occurred. He died at the scene.
The Leuven public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
Forensic investigators, a fire expert and a coroner were sent to the scene. According to the initial findings, the fire was accidental and there is nothing to suggest any criminal intent.
