Hundreds of relatives and friends of Arno paid a final homage to the departed singer on Sunday at the Westerstaketstel Jetty in Ostend, Belga News Agency reports.

They were on hand to see the Belgian icon’s ashes scattered in the North Sea, as he had wished.

Arnold Charles Ernest Hintjens, who had been battling pancreatic cancer since late 2019, died on 23 April.

“We have lost a great man in Ostend,” commented Ostend mayor Bart Tommelein after his death, writing in the local dialect. “Thank you Arno, the people of Ostend will never forget you.”
