Brussels Design Week will feature a host of exhibitions, talks, studio visits and meetings with designers, at a variety of venues in Belgium's capital, from 24 September to 4 October, according to the just-unveiled programme for its 20th edition.
The festival's venues include galleries, studios, cultural institutions, shops, hotels and heritage locations.
A new feature for this 20th anniversary edition is a central hub at AME in Brussels. The 900-square-metre hybrid venue will host, among other events, an exhibition by designer Alain Gilles and a series of talks.
Among the exhibitions, The Secular Chapel, presented by Rempart44 gallery at The Dominican hotel, will officially open Brussels Design Week. According to the organisers, it will bring together designers who use objects, materials and narratives as contemporary vehicles for attention, desire and imagination.
In Ixelles, the Les Jardiniers du Vide exhibition will showcase Zélie Boulestreau’s Papier Boulettes project throughout the festival. It will feature monumental works in paper and cardboard inspired by plant, animal and mineral forms.
The week's programme also includes the immersive exhibition, A Garden Party, at USquare, built around the idea of celebration as a space for encounter, creation and collective reflection, as well as Curated, at Mix Brussels.
The Commerce Design Awards, which since 2012 have recognised collaborations between retailers and designers, have selected seven winners, including The Standard, the Atomium Shop and AKKO CAFÉ. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 29 September at Trademart Brussels.
For its 20th edition, Brussels Design September is officially becoming Brussels Design Week. The rebranding comes with a new visual identity and an ambition to strengthen the event’s international profile.
