Fire in Avenue Churchill: 80-year-old woman suffers burns to face and arms

The Brussels Fire Brigade stated on Saturday that a fire broke out at ground-floor apartment on Avenue Winston Churchill around 11:00 this morning, in Uccle, Brussels.

An 80-year-old woman living inside the apartment was reported to have suffered burns to the face and arms. She was transferred to the military hospital in Neder-Over-Heembeek. Fortunately, her life was not thought to be at risk.

The fire was deemed to have originated from an accident in the victim's flat on the ground floor. Images show the extensive damage that the fire caused to the ground-floor apartment in Uccle, with the home now uninhabitable.

The fire was quickly brought under control by the fire brigade.

However, when they arrived on the scene, they evacuated the residents of the building with the help of the local police.

As a precautionary measure, one occupant who was on oxygen for respiratory problems was placed in an ambulance during the intervention.

She was able to return to her home after the fire brigade ensured that there was no carbon monoxide (CO) leakage in the building. The other residents were able to do the same.
