A man has been arrested in Wallonia’s Luxembourg region for attacking a scout camp and attempting to set it alight on the evening of 13 July. The suspect, in his forties, was detained in the following morning in relation to the attack.

Witnesses say that during the night, while scouts were camped out near Marbehan, they became the target of a resident of a local village. After being asked to leave the scouts alone, the suspect returned with a wheelbarrow filled with wood, according to the prosecution.

The suspect then dumped the contents of the wheelbarrow and set it on fire, before fleeing the scene. Scouts later heard an explosion. Fearing that the suspect was armed, they called the police.

The attacker’s home was searched, revealing that the suspect was in possession of a rifle and bullets. The suspect was already known to the police and this is not the first time that he has attacked nearby scouts. The man has previously been arrested for degradation, threats, and drugs offences.

The attacker will appear before the magistrate court on Thursday, the prosecution states.
