The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) has recalled the Boni Selection Bio Tortilla Rolls from all grocery store shelves.

Any customer who bought the chips between 24 May and 19 July is urged to return the bags to the store they were originally purchased from for a full refund.

The decision to recall the chips came from the discovery of an excessive level of tropane alkaloids in the product. The distributors of the chips, Colruyt Lowest Prices and Bio-Planet, decided to then recall the product after consultation with FASFC.

The chips come in a light green plastic bag weighing 125 grams. The best before date on the packaging is 22/08/2022 and 04/01/2023.

The toxic tropane alkaloids occur naturally in numerous plant families such as Erythroxylaceae (coca) and Solanaceae (potato and tomato).

Contamination in food sources can occur when the toxic plant parts containing tropane alkaloids are accidentally mixed into edible plants during harvest or processing.
