On Monday, the decorative containers that will adorn the Pukkelpop plain were transported on barges to the Flemish festival site.

Pukkelpop have once again collaborated with Vlaamse Waterweg to transport their material on the the Flemish waterways.

The first partnership took place in 2015, when backstage equipment was delivered by sea. It was subsequently followed by the transport of the main stage in 2017, containers in 2016 and 2018, and decorative containers in 2019.

This year, the 28 containers were placed onto a boat in Antwerp, which then proceeded to the port of Genk.

On Monday, the cargo was then unloaded and transported onto the festival site.

Lydia Peeters, the Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works, praised the initiative, calling it a sensible alternative to road transportation.

Frederik Luyten, a spokesperson for Pukkelpop, stated that this was one of "several steps to lessen the festival's ecological imprint and to raise broad awareness."

"We avoid 15 trucks from hitting the road just by carrying the products via containers on the canals," she added.

For the remainder of their material, Pukkelpop has a large depot in Kiewit, the town in which the event is held
