Federal Government planning to introduce another 22 average speed checks

By the end of October, 22 average speed checks will be added to Belgian roadways, bringing the total to 65.

Following a report in the Flemish daily Het Nieuwsblad, Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne's cabinet confirmed this information to Belga News Agency.

By the end of the year, Belgium is expected to have 65 average speed checks in operation, with 43 currently on Belgian roads.

Furthermore, there will no longer be speed quotas, but rather specific margins and any noncompliance will not be tolerated, the Minister stated in parliament.

According to Van Quickenborne's cabinet, "in terms of road safety, our country performs lower than neighbouring countries, but also Spain and Italy."
