Borealis has further postponed the building of its new plant at the Port of Antwerp to allow a better assessment of social measures needed at the site, where 55 potential victims of human trafficking were discovered, the chemical company said on Thursday.

Borealis had decided on July 27 to interrupt the construction work for three days and to suspend its contract with IREM-Ponticelli, the contractor in charge of the pipes and mechanics.

“As the investigation and the implementation of additional measures are still ongoing, Borealis decided on August 1 to postpone construction work in Beveren until further notice,” the company said. “The construction site will only partially resume.”

Borealis stressed that it has made the investigation its main priority.
