A man was arrested on Thursday morning after pulling out a knife in Ypres town hall. The incident occurred in the reception room of the West Flemish municipality's town hall, resulting in the building's closure and evacuation.
According to local police, the individual was only pointing the knife at himself and was said to be "emotional". They also stated that the police persuaded him to hand over the knife before apprehending him.
According to a spokesperson for the local police zone, the reasons for his action are still unknown.
This is the second time that the town of Ypres has been in the news this week, as a local festival there was cancelled due to its links with various neo-Nazi groups.
