Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) has promised companies short-term measures to offset the heavy energy bill.

"We are going to take measures," Jambon said on Monday at a meeting of the Flemish employers' organisation Voka. "They are coming. We are talking about days, not months."

He was speaking at the annual Voka Rentée, the launch of the new political year by the organisation.

There has been grumbling in the employers' world, which feels the Flemish government is dragging its feet on support measures for companies that are suffering heavily from the energy crisis.

"Every day counts, do not wait for the September declaration," Voka chairman Wouter De Geest urged the Flemish government on Monday, in a reference to the traditional declaration Flemish prime ministers make in the region's parliament each September.

Jambon assured the employers that the measures were imminent. At the same time, he pointed to the budgetary context. "We are going to take publicised and targeted measures that will not ruin the national economy," he promised.
