Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, accompanied by Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib and Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder, on Monday received Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in the Lambermont as part of his visit to Brussels.

They discussed the situation in Ukraine and Belgium's support for that nation, the prime minister's services reported.

The meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the evolution of the conflict in Ukraine and of the support that Belgium has been providing to Ukraine for more than six months. The three Belgian officials reaffirmed that Belgium would continue its military, humanitarian and diplomatic efforts.

"Belgium recently released €8.0 million to provide first aid, winter equipment and pharmaceutical products," the Prime Minister said. "From the beginning of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, our country has taken its responsibility. We will continue to do so, even if Vladimir Putin decides to make it a war of attrition."

Minister Lahbib emphasised that Belgium supports Ukraine at the multilateral level and will continue to do so. "Belgium will also do everything in its power to ensure that the perpetrators of war crimes are punished and that their victims receive justice," she said.

Minister Dedonder noted, for her part, that Defence "continues to support the Ukrainian army by sending military and medical equipment and by providing the first reception for the wounded."
