The Federal Minister of Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke wants all Belgian hospitals to have at least one radiologist at affordable rates.

In an interview with Flemish newspaper De Standaard on Friday, he explained that the government must do everything in its power to prevent people having to save money by avoiding radiologies due to the ensuing energy crisis.

“With winter bringing the promise of more hardship, our health system must be as tight as a dam," Vandenbroucke stated. "That calls for ambitious reforms.”

The minister is therefore working on a law which would oblige each hospital to have at least one contracted radiologist working at affordable rates.

“There are at least twenty Flemish hospitals where this is no longer the case,” Vandenbroucke deplored.

“We can no longer go there for examinations involving heavy medical imaging, such as a scanner or a PET scan, with the certainty of not having to pay extra... This is unacceptable in the current economic climate.”
