On Monday morning, a detainee managed to escape from a prison in Nivelles before being captured again after being spotted on railway tracks located nearby.
The suspect, in his early twenties, was under investigation for alleged murder but managed to escape the establishment around 09:00 on Monday.
This resulted in a chase on foot in the Nivelles-Genappe area, with the assailant stealing a bike in an attempt to fend off the police. He was finally arrested on the railway tracks, near the Quatre-Vents neighbourhood in Nivelles.

Police have confirmed that no officer was injured or assaulted during the escape. The fact that the prison was understaffed is said to be the reason behind the easy escape as only six of the 24 workers were on duty that day.
