An Air Force F-16 fighter plane made a precautionary landing at Brussels-National airport in Zaventem on Thursday at noon after being hit by lightning, according to a military source.

The aircraft declared an emergency after an in-flight lightning strike incident damaged its electrical system.

It was originally scheduled to land at Ostend airport, but the runway was not available there due to the ongoing landing of the plane carrying the Club Brugge football team after their victorious match against Porto club on Tuesday night.

It, therefore, headed towards Brussels Airport, where it was able to successfully land, stated a military source to the Belga Agency.

This kind of landing at Brussels-National of a combat plane is exceptional.
