More than 60% of Belgian students are convinced they will find jobs within three months of graduating, according to an annual study conducted by Randstad among 1,000 students on Friday.

A quarter of respondents were particularly optimistic and expected to start working within a month after graduation.

"The situation of young people at the end of their schooling is probably the best since the 1970s, commented Randstad spokesperson Sébastien Cosentino. "The optimism of the students questioned is therefore justified.

"Driven by labour market scarcity, they often have several choices at the start of their careers," he added.

At the other end of the scale, 3% were very worried and did not expect to find jobs for at least a year after graduating. About 43% of the group pessimistic about their job chances pointed, above all, to the economic situation, while 39% invoked their inexperience.

Slightly more than a quarter believed they did not have the right training or diploma to find a job quickly, while 12% felt their language skills were inadequate.
