Brussels Fire Brigade has confirmed a fire that broke out in the courtyard of the former Sheraton Hotel in the centre of Brussels.

At around 16:30 on Wednesday afternoon, firefighters were called to Place Rogier, at the former hotel, with smoke visible nearby.

Once on site, emergency services found that some plywood boards on the ground floor had caught fire with the flames spreading to the courtyard. The fire was subsequently extinguished.

About a dozen construction workers on the site had to be brought to safety but were unharmed.
