Do you ever look at your old board games? Perhaps they've lost their appeal or you no longer have a place to store them. Your children might be growing up and you don't know what to do with all these pastimes that are gathering dust around your home.

In Rochefort, the store La Poule aux Jeux d'Or has a solution: the "game exchange”. The deal is simple: you come to the store with your board game, and you receive a voucher in return.

Of course, Anne-Cé Paul responsible for La Poule aux Jeux d'Or, only accepts complete games in good condition. Once the verification is done, it is labelled and put back on the shelf awaiting a new owner.

Joy amidst the gloom

For the manager, this exchange benefits everyone. Since the launch of the concept in September, she has seen more people in her store. "The economic situation is a little gloomy," she said. "I feel that people are worried. So I wondered if there wasn't a way to reinvigorate all of that a little bit, to allow everyone to have access to board games and the happiness they provide. It's important to give everyone the opportunity to keep playing and reap the benefits."

There is also a Belgian resale platform dedicated only to games, toys and books for children. It's called La Récup' and is the toy version of the popular Belgian site Vinted.

"La Récup' is a kind of market where anyone can come and resell toys, games and children's books that they no longer use,” explained Delphine de Hemptinne, co-founder of La Récup'. “What is interesting, besides the price, is that suddenly we will also find things that we can no longer find in stores."
