Haitian singer Michael Benjamin, known by his stage name Mikaben, died suddenly of heart failure during a concert on 15 October at the Accor Arena in Paris at the age of 41.

Mikaben, who performed with Haitian band Carimi, "died after he collapsed on stage. Despite an intervention by the emergency services, his heart failure could not be resolved," announced the Accor Arena team, which was "terribly affected" by the news.

The concert was interrupted and the venue was subsequently evacuated, according to several witnesses.

According to videos on social media, the singer suddenly collapsed as he left the stage in the middle of a song.

"He was a great reference of Haitian music. The country and Haitian youth have lost a beautiful soul," Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry tweeted on Sunday.
