In tandem with their protest in front of Engie-Electrabel's offices in Namur, the FGTB union held another protest on Thursday at the Tihange Nuclear Power Station, which is also controlled by Engie.

From 09:30 to 11:00, 2,500 people protested for better solutions to rising energy costs, as a precursor to the nationwide strike on 9 November against the current cost of living crisis.

At the demonstration, Minervina Bayon, a regional secretary for the FGTB, warned protesters that "these small aids would not allow the population to get by," referring to the different government support measures. She insisted that "(energy) prices must be frozen."

Also among the union's demands were a new tax reform to recover the excess profits of energy suppliers and a revision of the 1996 law which sets the framework of salary indexations in the private sector.

Thierry Bodson, president of the FGTB, celebrated the large turnout and reiterated his belief that if "salary increases could directly be negotiated" with bosses, "we could solve the problems of a majority of the population."
