The Rise for Climate group, together with Princess Esmeralda, a delegation from the Amazon rainforest and several NGOs, staged a demonstration in Brussels on Thursday on the occasion of the European Council summit currently taking place there.
By the Schuman Square, the demonstrators called for the climate crisis not to be forgotten.
Representatives of communities living in Brazil's Amazon rainforest stood out among the crowd with their brightly coloured traditional outfits as the some 50 climate activists gathered at about 5.30 p.m. to remind Europe not to lose sight of the climate crisis when fighting the energy crisis.
“Short-term solutions to the energy crisis must not replace long-term measures for the climate crisis. We remind European leaders that the impact on climate is already here and will be here to stay,” said Tom Boyle of Climate Action Network Europe.
