Belgium's King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrived on Monday in Lithuania at the head of a high-level delegation for a three-day State visit.

The royal couple was welcomed around 1:00 pm local time at the international airport of Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital. One hour later, they were received at an official ceremony at the presidential palace by a Lithuanian delegation led by President Gitanas Nauseda and his wife Diana Nausediene.

The Belgian delegation, which includes the prime ministers of the country's three regions - Elio Di Rupo (Wallonia), Jan Jambon (Flanders) and Rudi Vervoort (Brussels) - will have a relatively busy programme in the Baltic country. Their agenda includes visits to several economic, political, cultural and academic institutions.

Military cooperation between the two NATO members will also be highlighted, as the King will visit Belgian soldiers in Pabrad on Wednesday.

This week's state visit marks the hundredth anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
