Fifteen European railway companies, including Belgium's SNCB, have agreed to provide free connecting trains to international travellers who have missed their trains due to delays.
The Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Managers (CER) announced the agreement, which would allow customers who missed their connections to board the following train at no extra cost if they are able to show confirmation of the delay.
National train operators from Belgium, Switzerland, Czechia, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Slovenia, Italy, and Slovakia have all signed the agreement.

"The aim is for all rail operators involved to implement this agreement," stated Cesare Brand, secretary-general of the International Rail Transport Committee (CIR), who also supported the agreement. "For passengers, a simple, European system for interrupted connections should be self-evident."
