The 43rd edition of the 24-hour cycling race in Louvain-la-Neuve returns after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The organisers, CSE Animation ASBL, promise something for everyone.

As this year's event is held during the school holiday, CSE expects more than the 45,000 people it normally attracts.

The main event is the 24-hour cycling race that will take place from 26 October at 13:00 to 27 October at 13:00. Every year since 1976, cyclists have battled it out to ride as many laps as possible in 24 hours, braving the dark, mechanical problems and sleep deprivation.

While the race is a highlight for those who love the exhilaration of cycling races, there is also a major attraction for those who prefer to enjoy cycling from the sidelines during the folk bike event, where many people decorate their bicycles in creative and unique ways.

The race has two categories: the most beautiful bike and the number of laps completed.

Alongside the cycling race, there will also be a running event. For 24 hours, the Place Polyvalente will "welcome runners allowing them to participate in the event in a festive and friendly spirit," said the event website. Bike repairs, massages, refreshments, and a lounge area will all be available during the event.

And if that weren't entertainment enough, the city will be completely transformed for these 24 hours. Six stages will be spread across the city with different concerts and entertainment dedicated to all ages and audiences.

For the younger event-goers, there will be the Color'ado Festival located in the rue des Blancs Chevaux and dedicated to 12-18 year olds. The Children's Village will be located in the Parc de la Source, an idyllic setting for smaller children.

For grownups, students and local residents, a Neighborhood festival will be held in the rue des Blancs Chevaux just after the Color'ado festival. Throughout the event, several concerts will also be held on the stages.

Due to the high number of university students expected during the late-night events, precautionary measures have been put in place. From 23:00 minors have been requested to leave Louvain-la-Neuve until 07:00 on the morning of 27 October. If the police intercept them in the street, administrative penalties of €50 to €350 may be imposed.
