Marcelle Lévaz, the oldest person living in Belgium (and in the Benelux region), died at the age of 111 on Sunday night, shortly after 21:00.
Lévaz died on Sunday evening in the Borgworm region, in the province of Liège, Belga News Agency confirmed, based on information shared by the mayor of Remicourt, where the so-called "super-centenarian" lived, and from the funeral director in charge of her burial.
Lévaz was known until the very end for her broad smile and her overall joy for life. She spent the end of her life in the residence "La Ferme Blanche" in Remicourt.
On the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO)'s list of "Oldest Living European supercentenarians," which had not been updated as of 09:00 on Monday morning, Lévaz (when alive) ranked as the 15th oldest person on the continent. She was born in Braives, in the province of Liège, on 18 March 1911.

According to the list, the oldest resident of Belgium and the Benelux countries is now the Flemish Magdalena Janssens, who is 110 years old. She was born in Antwerp on 16 March 1912 and currently lives in Zandhoven.
Lucile Randon, born on 11 February 1904, is currently the oldest living person in Europe of whom the age has been validated. She lives in Toulon, France.
