Federal Mobility Minister Georges Gilkinet wants to release €6 million for Skeyes, the autonomous public company responsible for air traffic control, to carry out adaptation work so that wind turbines can be installed near airports.

Gilkinet made the announcement on Thursday in the Chamber, in response to a question from independent parliamentarian Jean-Marie Dedecker.

There are technical limitations near airport beacons and radars, in so-called no-go zones, and wind turbines cannot be installed there.

“But with this budget, Skeyes can now reduce the restrictions to a minimum,” the minister said. “The aim is of course to make it easier to install wind turbines without jeopardising air safety,” he added.

The proposal will be on the table of the government on Friday.
