Stef Vandevelde, a 29-year-old Belgian who has lived and worked in Australia for several years was reported missing on Friday and hadn't been seen since Tuesday previous. He has been located in Sydney.

Last week, the New South Wales police in Australia issued a missing persons notice for the Belgian national after his family and friends were unable to contact him and reported his disappearance to the relevant authorities.

He has been based in the country for several years and had last been seen on Tuesday at a busy traffic crossing in Sydney.

Police had called on the public to assist them in the search, which bore fruit on Monday when a spokesperson for the New South Wales police confirmed that Vandevelde had been found safe and sound.

For many, this episode will have bought back memories of the 18-year-old backpacker Théo Hayez's disappearance in 2019, who is yet to be found, having last been seen at a bar in the same region of New South Wales.
