Infrabel, Belgium's railway operator, confirmed on Tuesday that 85.3% of all Belgian trains arrived on time in November. The figures, however, do little to alleviate concerns that the yearly punctuality rate of the Belgian railway service could fall below 90% for the first time since 2018.

On Tuesday, Infrabel released data on their website indicating that 85.3% of all Belgian trains arrived at their destination with less than six minutes delay in November.

This represents a 0.1% improvement on the previous month, which does little to improve the record-low figure of 85.2% in October, the lowest since November 2018. In comparison, the punctuality rate stood at 90.8% in November 2021.

Infrabel attributed this to the 3,202 trains that were partially or completely cancelled in November, which accounted for 3.7% of all trains run that month.

Furthermore, the rail operator revealed that 36.8% of the delays were caused by SNCB difficulties, with the other 35.1% being caused by third-party concerns such as accidents involving people on the rails.

As a result, the annual punctuality rate could fall below 90% for the first time since 2018, despite standing at 90.05% from January to October.
