Traffic in the city centre of Brussels will be disrupted on Thursday from 08:30 until midnight as a procession takes to the streets to celebrate Saint Barbara's Day, the patron saint of firefighters.
Saint Barbara, an important figure for devout followers of the Eastern Orthodox Church, has now become the patron saint of firefighters and other 'perilous' professions due to her association with lightning and fire.
A procession takes to the streets of Brussels to celebrate Saint Barbara's Day every year, this time tomorrow: Thursday 8 December. Consequently, traffic jams are expected in the capital from 08:30 until midnight.
