At the end of November, 2,238 Ukrainian refugees were signed up to the regional employment service Actiris in Brussels, with 14% of them have since found employment. These were the latest figures announced by Bernard Clerfayt, the capital's Employment Minister.

On Wednesday, the Region of Brussels' Employment Minister Bernard Clerfayt announced the latest figures from the region's employment office, detailing how many of those having fled the war in Ukraine are now registered with the service to find a job.

The numbers, last updated at the end of November, show that 2,238 Ukrainian refugees are now signed up to Actiris, of which 14% have found employment, with a further 20% having at least followed a training course.

Furthermore, Clerfayt explained that women make up 79% of those currently registered.

Translation of tweet: "Integration also involves employment! This is why, in Brussels, we reinforced our support services for Ukrainian job seekers. Among those registered with Actiris, 14% have already found employment and 20% have followed a training course."

These figures represent a significant rise from July, when over 1,200 Ukrainians were registered as job seekers. At the time, Actiris had opted to focus on the distribution of language vouchers to allow refugees to acquire basic understanding of one of Belgium's national languages, with an additional 800 vouchers having been distributed since then.

In the northern regions of the country, the Flemish Government recently announced that Ukrainian refugees would henceforth be required to register with their own employment service VDAB, as "working is and remains the most crucial criteria for social integration within our Flemish community."
