The Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone to confirm that Belgium will continue to provide humanitarian and military support to Ukraine "as long as necessary."

Their conversation on Tuesday afternoon focused on the importance of the coming weeks in the war between Russia and Ukraine, announced De Croo in a press release.

"On Tuesday, I informed Zelenskyy that our country's support to Ukraine will continue. The coming weeks will be crucial to enable Ukrainians to take back control of their country and regain their freedom," he said. "We will help them to do so."

President Zelenskyy also welcomed the phone call with De Croo and outlined Ukraine's defence needs in the face of a possible renewed Russian escalation. He also thanked the Belgian PM for sheltering Ukrainian refugees.

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Belgium has continuously provided support to Ukraine and was one of the first to provide the Ukrainian army with fuel and equipment, and to host Ukrainian civilians fleeing the war on its territory.

During their visit to Kyiv in late November 2022, De Croo and Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib announced additional aid for Ukraine, including new military support, the provision of generators for the winter as well as first aid kits and sleeping bags.
