Teenage trainee killed on construction site in Flanders

A 17-year-old trainee died on Wednesday morning in an accident on a construction site in Opoeteren in the province of Limburg. The young man, originally from Genk, was working on the construction of a house when a concrete joist fell on top of him.

The man was doing an internship and succumbed to his injuries despite the quick arrival of emergency services on the scene. A security perimeter has been established by local police and they have begun their initial investigation into the accident.

The Tongeren labour auditor has also launched an investigation to establish the circumstances behind the accident.
