Aspiring drivers in Belgium’s French-speaking region will be concerned. From 1 March, the price of driving tests is set to rise, the Walloon Government announced on Thursday. This is the first time in 20 years that the price of these tests has been indexed.

The rates for tests for driver’s licences for motorcycles, cars, and agricultural vehicles are also set to rise. In concrete terms, the theory exam will increase from €15 to €16. The cost for the risk-perception test will also rise by the same amount. In Wallonia, the risk-perception test is a compulsory step between the theory test and the practical exam.

In Wallonia’s driving system, drivers can undergo 20 hours of training with a teacher before demanding a “certificate of technical competence”, which allows drivers to travel independently on a provisional licence. The price for this certificate is set to increase from €60 to €67.

Finally, the practical exam for the standard “B” licence will increase from €36 to €40. These increased prices are still cheaper than in Brussels, where licence candidates must pay €42 for their test, and €47 for the same test in Flanders.
