An ongoing strike at the Brussels-Midi train depot is leading to many train cancellations on Wednesday morning, Belga News Agency reports. A dozen or so train attendants have launched the "spontaneous" strike to draw attention to the increased attacks against rail workers.
Pierre Lejeune of CGSP-Cheminots - one of the striking unions - explained that Wednesday's strike is due to the "terrible tension" train workers are under, with attendants feeling "emotionally" compelled to act after recent attacks on staff in Antwerp and Braine-le-Comte.
