The concentrations of aerosol particles in all three Belgian regions have exceeded the expected thresholds. CELINE, the organisation in charge of Belgium's air quality, have deemed the levels high enough to inform the public of possible air pollution.

Belgium's concentration of aerosol particles PM2.5 and PM10 went above the 35 µg/m³ and 50 µg/m3 respective thresholds over the past 24 hours. Brussels-Environment has asked the capital's citizens to avoid using their cars and asked those with respiratory issues to pay particular attention to their health.

These high concentrations can be attributed to air pollution (from industry, agriculture, traffic and heating of buildings) being poorly dispersed due to unfavourable meteorological conditions, such as the recent cold weather.

CELINE, also expect further exceeding particles over the next 24 hours due to changeable weather and increased wind speed. However, from Thursday onwards, the concentrations of particles will gradually decrease to normal levels for this time of year.
